Dan Stolz at Legit Reviews has posted is in depth review of our flag ship gaming board, the G1 Assassin X58, and it looks like he’s pretty impressed, awarding the Legit Reviews editors’ choice award:
The GIGABYTE G1 Assassin X58 motherboard packed with features. In fact, I don't think the could pack anything else on the board than they already did. In order to fit everything that they did, GIGABYTE had to move away from the standard ATX form factor and increase the size of the board to a XL-ATX form factor.
Another key feature of the GIGABYTE G1 Assassin X58 motherboard that was shoe horned onto the PCB is the Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Digital Audio Processor (20K2). The Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Digital Audio Processor features EAX Advanced HD 5.0, Dolby digital live encoding, and DTS Connect. Features like these aren't available on your run of the mill onboard audio chip. Testing the Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Digital Audio Processor with Rightmark Audio Analyzer show's an improvement in quality over the Realtek ALC 892 chipset found on most of the boards we have tested. The software available for the Creative Soundblaster on the GIGABYTE G1 Assassin, is part of what is going to separate the GIGABYTE G1 Assassin from the rest of the pack.
Legit Bottom Line: If you happen to be building an Intel X58 system and plan on upgrading the audio and installing a Killer E2100 NIC, the GIGABYTE G1 Assassin may just fill your needs perfectly!

The industry reports about GIGABYTE cancelling all P67 projects and moving 100% to next gen Intel 6 series chipset models are misleading and unfounded. GIGABYTE will continue producing some P67 chipset motherboard models until the end of 2011, and the H67 models are expected to be available well into 2012. However, it is true that GIGABYTE is aggressively preparing a full range of motherboards based on next gen Intel 6 series chipsets for the enthusiast, power user and mainstream market segments. These models will boast all the rich features available from Intel’s latest chipset and CPU offerings together with some exciting new GIGABYTE proprietary technologies.
We appreciate the excitement and enthusiasm regarding GIGABYTE’s next generation 6 series chipset motherboards, and look forward to a quick ramp in the weeks and months to come.
Argentine OCer nacho_arroyo is at it again doing some crazy overclocking recently. He reached 7GHz with his X58A-UD9 and a retail Core i7 980X. That is seriously impressive!
Steven Walton has published an exhaustive 5 board shootout, comparing a range of Intel P67 boards from Asus, MSI, ECS, ASRock and of course GIGABYTE. It’s clear the Steve is impressed by our efforts to offer DIY builders the most solid, high-performance and feature-packed board possible:
Finally, we have the grandaddy: Gigabyte's P67A-UD7….
While its overclocking abilities and general performance won't have you picking your jaw up from the floor, its functionality and build quality might. The P67A-UD7 supports up to ten USB 3.0 ports and provides more than 16 PCIe lanes for graphics cards with its four full-length PCIe x16 slots.
Thanks to its implementation of the Nvidia NF200 chip, all four PCIe x16 slots get x8 bandwidth, making it one of the best boards currently available for multi-GPU configurations. It scored the best on two out of three gaming benchmarks, it was alongside Asrock's P67 Extreme 6 with the top USB 3.0 performance, and it had the second-best overclocking results.
It's evident that Gigabyte didn't design this board for the typical user and it's probably not intended for the average high-end user either. That's a job for the UD5 or UD4. The P67A-UD7 is the ultimate motherboard for hardcore enthusiasts (read: wealthy). Overall, the Gigabyte premium offering has plenty of everything while it also does everything very well.

Veteran overclocker Sin0822 has just posted his inner-most feelings upon receiving the latest X58A-OC board, the world’s first board designed exclusively for overclockers, and man is he on cloud 9!
I figured a lot of you want to see what the final, retail version of the X58A-OC board look like. Well today the fedex man from heaven dropped by while I was at work. I got a call my significant other, and she was saying i had a new package. I asked her to open the pamphlet and read the description, and out comes the words "X58A-OC" as if she just read a serial number. While I sat there at work, my heart dropped, and what I said next will stay between her and I. Needless to say I was debating really hard to try and leave work early, this board I had been waiting months for had just arrived unannounced. I was so excited, today has to be one of the most exciting days of built up anticipation finally expressed!!!!!!!!!!
This board, is a piece of art. From the man behind board, Hicookie, come a creation that makes every overclocker drool on their keyboards. Needless to say this board lives up to all the hype, it really is a board to get excited about. A board made just for one purpose, and one purpose only, OVERCLOCKING! honestly, they did a terrific job at GIGABYTE, and times like these makes me want to try and get a job at a company so smart!
For now I leave you guys with pics of the final box, its accessories (you get 7 (seven) voltage reading DMM attachments!!), and some close ups of the board, and WITHOUT a heatsink. Enjoy!
[Seems like Sin0822 enjoys his dipswitches] “I love DIP switches that actually do something!!!! bring me more!!!”
The level of interest around this board is quite astonishing. Sin0822 posted on four forums; XtremeSystems, overclock.net, TweakTown forum, and HardOCP. So far approx 2,500 have read his post with almost 80 others posting a reply – just in the last 24 hours.
Sin0822 will no doubt be like greyhound out the traps in getting the X58A-OC up and running. We await his review with baited breath. Keep you posted….
We managed to get hold of an iPad 2 (thanks Karen) to test whether GIGABYTE On/Off Charge still works on the newest iFamily member. Check it out:
In the picture above, the power meter shows that Karen’s iPad is drawing 1.18A from our USB 2.0 On/Off Charge port while the battery was around 30% full. Of course, this works when the PC is on or off (as in this case). The On/Off Charge onboard header has a red background to make it easily identifiable on the motherboard.
As the battery becomes fuller, the amount of current drawn reduces as can be seen by these two pictures:
So, if you’re considering buying an iPad 2 and were wondering if your GIGABYTE motherboard would be able to quick charge it, On/Off Charge still works as well as with the original iPads. Here’s the link to the GIGABYTE On/Off Charge microsite.
